CUSTOM SHOPIFY, DJANGO, & QUICKBOOKS ECOMMERCE INTEGRATION
Grow Generation contracted us for a multi-phase rollout of a sophisticated shopping site first for commercial members and later public customers that also integrates with their established QuickBooks systems.
Similar to many shopping sites separating wholesale from public customers, Grow Generation’s operations with commercial clients requires a custom signup and retention system based on easy contact and price negotiation across a single product or hundreds in many categories. The major difference being the site also needs access to the client’s Quickbooks system.
As Grow Generation aims to be a massive, one-stop-shop for grow equipment with the largest inventory in the industry, a reliable and highly scalable system using multiple technologies was required to meet the demands of an ever increasing green growers marketplace for commercial and amateur customers.
Since ZDCA often relies on the security and scalability of Shopify for ecommerce solutions, the trick was to integrate a simplified shopping interface with the client’s QuickBooks system while keeping an eye on future integrations for both commercial and public customers. The answer was a ground-up programmed API using Django to connect Shopify and QuickBooks.
Additionally, this required a radically customized Shopify theme to offer both sophisticated product search filters and to marry the various databases and content into a cohesive and user-friendly presentation any customer can navigate, including ready person-to-person contact for product negotiation and customer satisfaction communication.
Shopify and Django were employed to maintain solid integrity for services with thousands of customers buying tens of thousands of products as smoothly as possible over years of scaling demands.
Currently, the site is viewable by the public while only commercial clients with established accounts can negotiate for product purchases. Ultimately, the site will largely automate all purchases for commercial and public customers in a system that supports the largest inventory for grow equipment in the world.
